Jefferson County Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty

A Jefferson County woman has been arrested on animal cruelty charges after one horse was found dead on her property. State Police have arrested 45 year old Josiphina Nelson of Theresa after cruelty investigator were called her home concerned about the welfare of seven horses on the property.

Six horses were found to be malnourished and one horse was found dead in a field behind her barn on County Route 194.Nelson has been charged with seven counts of Torturing and Injuring Animals and Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance. The six horses found to be malnourished were removed from her property until the case is disposed of.
