Syracuse Police Make Arrest In Child Rape Case

Syracuse police have arrested a man for having sexual contact with a child.

Officers were called to a home on Washington Square Wednesday evening where they were told about how an adult male had sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 11.  Police say the suspect and victim did know one another prior to this happening.  Detectives from the department's Abused Persons Unit were notified and came to the scene to assist in the investigation.  Shortly afterward, detectives arrested 38-year-old Timothy Widger and charged him with first degree rape.  Widger is in custody at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
