Washington D.C. Renames Russian Embassy Street After Slain Putin Critic

It seems Washington D.C.'s City Council has become familiar with the art of trolling and Russia President Vladimir Putin is their first target. The council announced on Tuesday they had voted unanimously to rename the street in front of then Russian embassy after a murdered Russian opposition politician.

The D.C. city council voted to rename a section of Wisconsin Avenue (where the Russian Embassy is located) after Boris Nemtsov, a vocal critic of Putin, who was shot outside the Kremlin in 2015. The city council said in a statement that its decision to rename the street was to honor the slain democracy activist.

Policitians in Russia labeled the move a "dirty trick".

Nemtsov was shot and killed in front of the Kremlin in February of 2015 while walking home from a restaurant. Five people were arrested in connection with Nemtsov's death, but family and friends say they believe the person who ordered the murder is still at large.
