Syracuse Wants Your Help Picking The New Top Cop

Syracuse, N.Y. - Folks in Syracuse are being asked what they want in their next police chief.

City officials say they are hopeful to have a dozen or more dates for what they are calling a listening tour. So far only four have been announced:

  • Tuesday, April 3, 5 to 7:30 p.m. - Northside CYO, 527 N. Salina St.
  • Tuesday, April 10, 5 to 7:30 p.m. - City Hall Atrium, 201 E. Washington St.
  • Wednesday, April 11, 5 to 7:30 p.m. - PEACE, Inc. Eastside Family Resource Center, 202 S. Beech St.
  • Tuesday, April 17, 5 to 7:30 p.m. - St. Lucy's Church, 432 Gifford St.

Chief Frank Fowler is on his way out but will continue to oversee the department until his replacement has been named. Fowler has repeatedly touted First Deputy Chief Joseph Cecile to be his successor.

Officials say they are looking to have the Chief hired by November, and in place before the end of the year. Mayor Walsh has called hiring a new chief, a top priority of his first term. To do so, the City will be hiring a search firm to help them find their ideal candidate.
