Teen Fights With Police After Crashing Stolen Car

Wednesday, around quarter after 5, Syracuse Police spotted a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville traveling east in the 600 block of Delaware Street. The vehicle had been reported stolen on Monday. 

Officers attempted to conduct a vehicle and traffic stop of the stolen car. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop for police and a traffic pursuit ensued, until the driver lost control of the vehicle in the 200 block of Rich Street. 

The driver and front seat passenger of the vehicle then fled the scene on foot.  Police pursued and were able to locate the driver, Rakiem Spears, 17, of Syracuse, in the 600 block of Bellevue Ave. Rakiem Spears fought with officers as they took him into custody. 

The rear seat passenger, Robert Spears, 45, of Syracuse, did not flee the scene and was taken into custody without incident.

 Rakiem Spears was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Driving and Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer in the Third Degree.  He was also issued a number of Uniformed Traffic Tickets for various vehicle and traffic law violations.  

Robert Spears was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree.
