A rising star on the Marcellus High School wrestling team is dead after a car crash early Sunday morning.
Marcellus school district superintendent Michelle Brantner said in a statement that 16-year-old Matthew Norris was killed in the crash on South East Townline Road at about 4 am. Onondaga County sheriffs say there was only one occupant in the crash, when Norris struck a tree near Collins Road. Superintendent Brantner says the staff is in the process of making arrangements for staff and students to receive support, which will be on the school district site. There is a report that speed and driver inexperience were factors in the crash.
