"DWI Guy" busted for DWAI in Liverpool

UPDATE: 10/5/2018 Liverpool Village court officials say that the case involving Tom Anelli has been adjourned in contemplation of dismissal. The case will be dismissed in six months assuming that Anelli does not run into any new legal trouble.

The lawyer known by many in Central New York as "The DWI Guy" found himself accused of drinking while driving.

State police say a woman told them that she had gotten into an argument with Tom Anelli while Anelli was driving in the village of Liverpool Friday night.  She says Anelli left her at Tulip and 6th Street and drove off.  But Anelli returned to the location while the woman was being interviewed.  Anelli was arrested and taken to the state police barracks in Lysander after troopers smelled alcohol on his breath.  At the barracks, Anelli's blood alcohol content was measured at .06.  Because of the reading, Anelli was charged with driving while ability impaired, which is a lesser charge than driving while intoxicated.  DWAI is a traffic infraction, and Anelli was issued a citation.
