MaryEllen Elia Stepping Down As State Education Comissioner

Albany, N.Y. - New York State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia will be leaving her job next month:

Elia has been in the position since 2015, and says her next career step will involve national education policy.

In a statement, she said she hopes to take what she's learned from working with New York's educational system and use that information to improve schools and classes across the country.

A replacement hasn't been named.
