Cuomo Signs Law Decriminalizing Marijuana

Albany, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo has signed legislation decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana.

When the new law takes effect in 30 days, having an ounce or less will result in a fine of up to 50 dollars, and having between one and two ounces will result in a penalty of up to 200 dollars.

Those offenses would no longer be considered misdemeanors.

The law also allows those with certain misdemeanor marijuana convictions to have their records expunged.
