Gov. Cuomo Speaks On Controversy Over Use Of 'N-Word'

Colonie, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo is commenting publicly on the controversy he stirred up by using the 'n-word.'

During an event near Albany yesterday, the governor said he was just quoting the New York Times when he used the racial slur during a radio interview last week. The Times article was op-ed discussing racism against Italian Americans.

The comment upset some prominent African American leaders, including NAACP leaders. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said the governor only used the word in the context of the newspaper column.
