Canton Street Bridge In Van Buren To Be Replaced Not Removed

Van Buren, N.Y. - The Canton Street Bridge that runs over the Thruway in Van Buren has been given a reprieve.

New York State Thruway Authority says the bridge will be replaced instead of torn down.

After hearing from residents and local leaders it was decided to replace the bridge providing increased height clearance, a new guide rail, reflective line striping, and pedestrian access.

It's estimated to cost about 9 million dollars to replace the nearly 70-year-old bridge.
