Father And Son Vol. Hannibal Firefighters Arresting For Ripping Off Dept.

Hannibal, N.Y. - New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli says a Father and Son volunteer firefighters have been arrested for ripping off the department.

Former Hannibal Fire Chief Chris Emmons allegedly stole $18,000, and his father Carl Emmons Sr. is accused of ripping off $2,500.

Chris Emmons convinced the Fire department to build a go cart track on department property with the intention of sharing profits.The department spent $35,000 to create "Hannibal Kartway".

An audit by DiNapolis's office showed after a couple years, no deposits were made into the department's account and in fact before the audit the remaining balance was withdrawn by Emmons' Father and placed in a personal account.

Chris Emmons was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree and falsifying business records in the first degree. He is scheduled to appear in court again on March 12.

Carl Emmons Sr. was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree and given a desk appearance ticket. He is due back in court on March 5.
