$1.5m Pay Gap Between Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams — the Reason Why Is Surprising

Sometimes “fake news” isn’t so much a matter of giving out false information, but of not giving up all the facts. Take for example the latest gender equality in Hollywood flash point, the one about actress Michelle Williams who only earned $1000 for reshoots on the film “All The Money In The World,” while costar Mark Wahlberg pocketed $1.5 million. True, that stuff really happened. But before you jump on the ‘what-a bunch-of-bigots’ bandwagon, let us fill you in on the rest of this story.

Lights …

It all started with director Ridley Scott’s decision to reshoot all of the movie’s scenes with Kevin Spacey, who had been accused of sexual misconduct, just weeks before the movie’s December release date. Actors Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams agreed to do the reshoots, but Wahlberg (and agent) asked for $1.5 million to do the scenes. Williams, on the other hand, did the extra scenes for $1000.

Why the huge disparity? That’s the part of the story that no one is bothering to mention. According to numerous reports, Williams said on record, “I’d be wherever they needed me, whenever they needed me. And they could have my salary, they could have my holiday, whatever they wanted. Because I appreciated so much that they were making this massive effort.” In other words, she was willing to work for free because she felt that doing the reshoot was the right thing to do. Wow!

Action!

“There’s actually a really good story here, but they chose not to write it” said Glenn on the show today. “That is a fantastic story. There’s nothing wrong with that, but the fact remains that she could have asked for more money like Mark Wahlberg did.”
